Roots dug up, used as driftwood?

Your maple root should be fine to use. Just give it a good scrub, scrape off any soft bits, leave 24 hours for any chlorine in the wash water to evaporate and way you go.

    Bad product, worse company

I think not replacing a faulty product is violating your consumer rights and you should make a very big fuss about it. I also think the name of the product should be made known here. You have every right to warn people about this company. We have every right to know about this company.

    good communtiy fish?

I hope you mean that she won't let you have the lights on for more than 4 hours. You do run the filter and heater full time, don't you? That is essential. You could get away with natural light for the fish. Put the tank near a window in the cool seasons. I agree with the above posters on...

Rainbow fish ... ok in a community tank?

I wouldn't chance a dwarf gourami with a blue gourami. Blue gouramis have the reputation of being a bit aggressive. Here is a very informative site on rainbowfish. http://members.optusnet.com.au/chelmon/

    60g Community Stocking

Firstly, your tank is NOT ready for fish!!!! Get your ammonia and nitrite levels to 0 unless you want to do daily 50% water changes for the next 6 weeks to keep your dish alive with only minimal permanent damage from the poisoning. Having said that, angel fish would be nice in that tank...

Final stock for my 55 gallon.

If you get the red tailed shark you can say goodbye to most of the rest of your stock. Those guys get big and very aggressive. The rest sound fine. You should wait till there is some algae in the tank before getting the ottos. They eat algae almost exclusively and can starve to death in a...

    cotton wool disease?

Boiling or bleach should work on almost everything. If it's cheap, like air tubing, chuck it. I would leave the stuff outside in a sunny spot for a week or two. Nothing like some sunshine and fresh air to disinfect things. Do you have a place to quarantine your last fish while you...

    quick question about female bettas

I'd say the swordtails may be a problem but you can only give it a try and see how it goes. Don't reallocate their old tank till you're sure, though!

any catfish small enough for a 5 gallon?

Check your online suppliers websites. Some of the Kits are odd lenths, for instance an Aqua One 510 is 18 inches wide and fairly tall. I think it would hold about 12-15 gallons. Just have a look. They are out there. Go with the biggest tank that you can comfortably fit in that space...

betta tank, oxygen in the water?

If your filter is creating too much agitation you can turn the spray bar around or direct the flow of the output into something to lessen it. A plant, driftwood, whatever. If you want another fish in your tank, better upgrade to at least a 10g, then maybe your filter wouldn't be too strong.

Betta in a 50 gal and tankmates?

Approx 1.5 to 2 wpg should be enough. I have 2 T8 flourescent tubes over my 50g tank and it is sufficient light for plants classed as low light.

Betta in a 50 gal and tankmates?

I have never had a problem with bettas fighting if there is adequate space. I had one female betta start to bully the other two when I had the three of them in an 8 gallon isolation tank. As soon as they went into the 55, no more problem. My tank is fairly heavily planted, btw. I don't think...

    Mopani driftwood find

There is so little tannin in Mopani that I wouldn't worry about it at all. Just put it in your tank. Great find. Mopani costs $12 to $30 here in Oz.

My Proposal! (for an aquarium design! geesh!)

I think that you could find a better deal than that one for $50. That is about what you'd pay new for what he is selling. It is super basic. It has no light. It looks like the filter is driven by an air pump which will be noisy. Keep looking. You will find something with a better pump and a...

Converting 75 gallon Cichlid tank to 75 Gallon Planted tank

If you don't want to spend the money on CO2, then go with the lower light. You have to select your plants out of the "easy" category, but as long as you do that, you'll be fine. There are enough "easy" plants that you can have a terrific looking planted tank without much trouble at all...

Betta in a 50 gal and tankmates?

I keep female bettas in my 50g with a male and no problems. He only pays attention if they come within a few inches of him, then a little chase for a couple of seconds. He stops as soon as the female swims away. I have done this several times over the years with different bettas and...

    20 Gallon Long stocking options?

Either of your ideas would work fine. I would get cardinals instread of the neons, though. They are hardier and less disease prone and prettier. Another idea if you can find them and afford them is Spotted Blue-eye Pseudomugil gertrudae...
