Firemouth sounds good, you could try a convict too or maybe a feisty severum.

Powerglo bulbs have served me very well, they're being cost effective, while having a blue sheen and being bright.

With blue rams, I've noticed its best to have only one male if possible because of aggression, although in a 72, I doubt only 2 of them would have huge territory issues.

The pics you posted look very much like apistogramma, which are a distinct species from rams. In my experiences, they tend to be quite docile and even shy, but as Lupin said, the only real way to tell who the culprit is would be to separate the apistos.

If time and adjustment is not the guilty factor, check your temperature. Rams love to be around 80-82...this is where their blue and the personality really tend to come out in my experience.

A big factor is your water hardness. I've heard that they only spawn in very soft water, so if you have harder water you could probably manage another pair.

Thanks for the encouragement, Pittbull :grinyes: At this size, I've found aggression to be alot more evenly spread out when I have around 7-8 fish in the tank (I had a recent loss due to infection...complicated story) than with only 6 inhabitants.

I was mainly asking for the near future when I move and do get a larger tank, but I do appreciate the concern from everyone.

When they get bigger if space becomes a problem, I'd get a 40 breeder, 40 long, or 55 depending on what's in the market at the time. I'm moving fairly soon so getting one at the moment would be pretty impractical. Presently, the fish range from 2-3 inches and don't seem to be having any problems.
