Pics of the Rena:
Calcium and algae stains don't wanna come off. :(
The parts that are bent (the little top tab thingies):
Forgot to mention, this thing rattles like nobody's business when its priming, but it does quiet down once it gets going.
Well, USPS is showing $9.82 for parcel post, and $10.55 for priority to FL (I just plugged in a zip code for Orlando since I don't know where you're at). 'Course, that's with delivery confirmation (I got delivery confirmation shipping to a place about a half hour from me once. Guy thought I was...
The noisy Whisper one is still available, but the aquatech and the powerhead are pending.

Would anyone be interested in a Rena "Smartfilter" 55 HOB? I had it on my turtle tank for a while and hated it (you do NOT want their patented EasyClog® cartridges :p), but it...

The equipment is from tanks that were exposed to mycobacteria ("fish tuberculosis"), so it's all had several rounds of bleach and 70% isopropyl alcohol (except the air pumps which obviously weren't exposed to water). I disassembled everything as much as it could be for cleaning, scrubbed...
Actually, in this case I'd say the alcohol did it. Mycobacteria is more sensitive to alcohol than to bleach (it takes a 1% chlorine solution to kill it, and straight Clorox is 6% chlorine, so you'd need one cup of clorox for every 5 cups water). But yeah, I can't imagine anything surviving.
And...
I wasn't sure where to put this, but whats the general consensus on using equipment from tanks that had a fish tuberculosis outbreak? I'm not planning to get any more fish again, but I have all this stuff around that'd be a shame to just toss.
I've been cleaning it up by scrubbing it with 70%...
Ehhh... not a good idea. I'd use net disinfectant, then let it dry, and never use that net for any other tank.
So, obviously posting this thread wasn't a great idea. Even aside from the potential problems people have pointed out, not everyone is used to practicing sterile technique with their...
I just figured if I already know one person that already is dealing with fish with TB and doesn't mind taking on more, there might be other folks out there that are the same. I had originally planned on euthanizing all of them until that one person was so adamant on me finding homes (She's...
Thanks. From what I've read treatment with kanamycin takes anywhere from 30 days to 3 months (plus doesn't often work), and my parents want the fish out of here much sooner than that.
Looks like I can cover the shipping for everyone. Someone on another forum has offered to sponsor shipping for one package to someone that has to resources to care for some of these guys. :)
Ok, I know this is kind of wishful thinking, most people don't have the resources or inclination to take on fish that have could be sick and have to be treated as health hazards to any other tanks for their entire lives. But I really hate to have to euthanize them when they seem perfectly fine...
