Right now I in the process of improving circulation by cutting/grinding some of the slate at the top of the section in front of the overflow. It will take a few more days as I am using a Dremel. Once that is done I'll have to clean out all the stone dust, tweak circulation and then add gravel...
I immersed about 48 hours after the last piece was glued. With that said the glue is supposed to cure within 2 hours. Regarding safety of the glue, I'll still be stocking slowly to ensure things are ok.
Filled it with water and noted an oversight on my part. I meant to leave more room near the top of the foam gap where the filter returns the water. I tested the flow using potassium permanganate to dye the water and noted that it takes a bit of time for the water to escape the gap. With that...
Thanks guys. I like the idea of using the eggcrate. For my project though I need something thicker. I found LPDE foam that is two inches thick. The plan is to create a few gaps in the two inch foam in order to house a heater, airstone, power filter intake and possibly a sponge filter. The gaps...
I came across the following about a guy who made a background out of slate and Styrofoam:

Basically he siliconed Styrofoam to the back of the tank and glued the state to the foam. End results looked good. The example was on a 72g...
Right now I have a 5g tank with a small colony (5 adults, ~5 fry) of Heterandria formosa. I just set up a low-light planted 20gLong for them with an AC70 and a power head with sponge pre-filter and I'm trying to figure out the best way to move them over. The 5g has a Red Sea nano with an Aqua...
In my experience the smaller corydoras are a bit less hardy than the more common bronze corydora or peppered corydora. A 10g tank is not a lot of room for some of the larger corydoras (my opinion) but the smaller varieties would probably do alright as a group of 5 in a 10g tank. By smaller...
They will cut your wood but I don't think they guarantee accuracy. I always felt that they offered the wood cutting service mainly so that if you bought a large piece of wood you could get it in your vehicle and not necessarily to provide you with project grade cuts. I could be wrong, but it is...
The T-5 fixture seems like it would address a lot of issues such as coverage and low wattage. From what I am reading it looks like the useful lifespan ofm the bulb is decent too. Now I just have to find somewhere in my area that sells T-5 bulbs and fixtures.
My only misgiving about the 96w fixture is that it takes the tank beyond 2 watts per gallon. 2.5WPG looks like where it becomes necessary to start injecting CO2 and adding fertilizer. Is this a correct assessment?
