    Hardy fish for a 5gallon

Fundulopanchax gardnerii or any other of the tougher small killies

Frustrated and need advice with Ich/velvet..

Your fish are getting sick because they're being bought sick. In the open ocean ich is less of a problem because of the amount of space means the chances of an ich parasite finding a fish is quite low. In the confines of a tank lack of space to go means the chance of being reinfected is quite...

    Keyhole Pygmy, what to feed?

I always find Centropyge spend the first month browsing liverock before going to prepared foods so don't worry. But keep an eye on hime - these are not very reef safe at all

    High Nitrates in Q-Tank

I would comment here - I frequently use live rock in QT as otherwise it's tough to get some fish to eat anything. Know that it needs to come out if you use meds though. 2. Agree, no gravel, sand 3. I barely cycle my QT, and I certainly don't give a rats a!!e re: nitrates. I water change to...

Do the bristles on a bristlenose grow?

While most bristles come from 2 or 3 species, there are about 70 it could possibly be, so lengh of bristles is a bit hard to predict.

how long before bristlenose start bre4eding?

A year is a fair bet. They're not especially quick to mature.

    Problem with DottyBacks

I would guess they're starving to death if they're always dieing at the same time, presumably as you're not providing the right foods. You need to get intouch with an established breeder. Try Martin Moe, TMC in the UK brred them, and so do some other people. You should try on the...

    New gold nugget pleco (L018)

I would get some bits of shrimp in there and leave them in overnight. Until they get going they are not great feeders, and eating only algae is a bad sign they're starving. I've posted before on how I think it works best to keep them. I never bred them , but people local to me ave, and i do...

    I need everyones guidance

The reason the nitrate is going up is because you have no real mechanism in place to export/remove it except water changes and whatever the live rock deals with (not very efficiently). And a 10% water change will leave 90 of the nitrate still i nthe tank, slowly building up to a level where the...

    Mucho pricey, these discus.

Depends on your tapwater. If it's very, very good then you can use that, or if it's poor (by fish standards, not human consumption) I'm afraid you need RO or you start to get niggly long term problems. And try to start with a big tank and a big group. Starting with 2 or 3 in a 30 or...

Need to give away some Juvenille Pacu's

Fat chance of getting rid of them - there's plenty already been rehomes, and not too many people want them. You can kill them yourself, or you can take them back to the lfs who may try to sell them or simply euthanise them later that day.

    Gardinieri(?) Killifish

No they're pretty common for a killie, though there are some more unusual regional colour varieties around. I kept a pair in a big 3 gallon bowl in my sons bedroom w/ just a heater and was always pulling out fry, so I think they're pretty hardy. A 20 would be a bit wasted on them?

    Anemones and Salinity

You're completely underlit now, and the quad 65's will be bottom end. You're also horribly overcrowded and sooner or later you'll get some hassles from that. ALso I think choc chips may predate on anemonaes.

New setup......Looking for criticizims and advice

I wouldn't bother with the heater either. Most people have problems with overheating rathen than getting cold, with heat from the lights pumps et al. Also if a heater fails it is more likelt to fail on than off. It's not something I would expect to happen again.

Teacup Stingray seems like it's trying to escape

Yes the people who I know who are having success with rays, including breeding, change a heck of a lot of water.

    Moving house with tank

I've moved house a couple of times, and have always take nmy tanks with me. As long as you are very organised , and have a decent plan it's not a big deal, but is also not a minor task. How big tank, do you have a spare you can use as well.

    Bi-Colour Angelfish

Well if there's no live rock, and you haven't seen him eat he probably isn't. I've had mine about a year. I QT'ed him in a tank with live rock, and good job as he didn't touch floating food for the first month. Many find them delicate, but if you can get a healthy one established they are...

    Advice on Grey/Green Cloudy Water

I don't like UV sterilisers to fix green water because you kill the algae so it rots to nitrate and forms more algae elsewhere. Could be too much phosphate, or bad quality tapwater. Normally I'd say up the water changes, and get rid of the excess nutrient, but if you're tapwater is dodgy...

Am I good for a Dwarf Cichlid?

When I talk whitewater I mean water that is very pure, doesn't have a high Gh or Kh, is soft and has a pH round about zero. Many S American rivers are like this, though they may not be white but brown as they're sfull of silt. Blackwater is similar water that has flowd across dead vegetation...
