You should grow some rainbowfish out from Gary Lange if you're in St Louis :P
I'm trying to decide what containers I want to use for in ground mini tropical ponds. I'm thinking the ground will help insulate. Both heat and cold come the cool season. Perhaps extend the grow season a month on each...
You should work with Charles Clapsaddle mollies. He gets em up to 5 inches. Biggest ones I've ever seen and wins every single ALA convention in the molly category. http://goliadfarms.com/product-category/fish/commercial-mollies/
I actually made a video tutorial series on breeding tropical fish outdoors today. In my first video I go over a few species that work well outside. Have a look and pass it along to any fish groups who could find it useful...
I think you're lucky. I've definitely had goldfish chow it down. Maybe put some rocks by the roots so they don't dig it up even if they don't like the taste.
You can dose seachem excel at 2x the normal dosing to battle it. It works as an algaecide. I dose the first day. Let it sit the second day. 3rd day do a 50% water change. Dose again. Then on the 6th day repeat the water change. In my experience once it starts dieing on day 2, fish start eating it.
Looking good. Although it seems like you could use a shooling fish in that tank mid water to help break up the aggression of the gouramis and future angels.

Recently, I had the chance to interview Luis Navarro about his role in the Iron Aquascaper competition. Luis has many achievements under his belt including a first place win and best in show at the 2002 AGA International Aquascaping Compeition. Luis also gives a nice presentation on aquascaping...
The most common nuisance in a typical aquarium is the ever-abundant fiend known as algae. It can grow on your plants, blocking light and stifling growth. It grows on your glass, impeding the view through the window into world that you’ve worked so hard to create. In short, find a surface and it...
I find that many people still having good luck with livebearers are those that live in hardwater areas. I myself killed too many livebearers before figuring out that the soft water that should support them just fine was doing them in very slowly.
In many older books and magazines you’ll read how livebearers like Endler’s Livebearers and Guppies are great for beginners because they’re hardy. This was once true, however now that we are many generations away from wild stock, some of them have become quite weak. Unfortunately, most...
You could stock much more heavily if you know what you're doing. With the same filter on a 20g. I can keep 100 full grown white clouds. I sell them out of this tank at work. The only addition is a coarse filter sponge on the intake.
Stocking levels in my opinion are directly proportional to...
When is the last time you cleaned your fx5? Also when do you do water changes do you unplug the fx5?
If a canister is unplugged for 40 minutes or longer, the beneficial bacteria inside of it dies.
If you wash the filter media at the sink with chlorine water, you also lose your beneficial...
