Sand makes a great substrate. Personally though, I'd never used sand bagged for the aquarium trade as it's too costly. I'm using both pool filter sand (it's light in color) and play sand (requires more rinsing because of the clay content). The fish don't know the difference !!! PFS is around...

I've got a colony of 19 in a 125g (a little small for my liking, the colony, not the tank)....... but the ratio is 2M/17F.
Fry #s have improved since removing 2 synodontis cats (4-5") leaving the Tropheus the only residents in the tank.
Had 3 females holding, and I decided to strip...... They're Tropheus Ikola Kaiser....... Got 9 eggs from one of them, 11 from the second, and 5 wigglers w/sack from the third....... 25 future fish to add to the collection........ They're in my homemade tumblers now... I put the eggs in one...
