    Presents? What'd you all get?

I got a Potter's Leopard Wrasse to complement my Bipartitus and Ornate. I also ditched my crappy Kodak Z712is camera and bought a Nikon D2H DSLR from ebay. I will actually be able to accurately set the white balance to finally get a good shot of my tank!

Come on guys, lets beat the planted tanks!

I respect both. Only reason I joined in was because of the joker that said reefs were just a ton of money with no artwork or skill.

Come on guys, lets beat the planted tanks!

Thanks Ace, That's what I was thinking but you put it into much better words. Also, what kind of pests and quarantine do the FW planted guys have to deal with compared to us reef freaks?

Come on guys, lets beat the planted tanks!

I am guessing you have never kept a reef tank? To say there is no art or skill required for a reef tank is just ludicrous. I have never kept a FW planted tank but I can easily see there is alot of artwork and skill required. Seems like you're bashing reef just because it can take "scads" of...

Come on guys, lets beat the planted tanks!

I agree but I am biased as my tank is a SPS reef.

    Identification Please

Red Flatworms. I have a ton of them in my Xenia Scrubber tank. I have heard they are not too bad. I have none in the main 75g SPS display due to the 2 Leopard Wrasses. Red Oscellated Dragonettes tend to eat them as well. I added one to the 29g Xenia Scrubber a couple weeks ago and their...

    Could it be?

Certainly looks to be coming back. Woohoo, free coral! I have a Cerialis Acro that had been in my tank for 6 months that RTN'd in a 16hour period of time and as I was about to pull the dead skeleton from the tank about a week later, I noticed 1 small bit of live tissue so I left it in the tank...

    29g or 55g

Alright, figure about $125-175 for a decent enough T5 light fixture for the 29g or about $200-275 for a T5 light fixture for the 55g. The LPS and especially the anenome will need some good light. Basic salt mixing procedure is same as above.

    29g or 55g

Ok. Basics of mixing new saltwater. Are you going to want to have coral? Fish only or fish only with live rock means all you need is a good starter salt like instant ocean. Fish alone don't really care about calcium, magnesium and alkalinity other than these 3 control ph but we won't consider...

    29g or 55g

My water changes are everyday and take about 3-4 minutes. I haven't automated it yet. I turn off the pump to my remote 29g refugium and remove 2 gallons using a gallon jug and replace with new saltwater from a 32g container and then turn pump back on. Total water volume is about 130g...

    Xenia question

I have been keeping Red Sea and Silver Elongata Xenia in a 29g refugium for nutrient export for 6 months. The biggest affect on Xenia I have seen or read about is temperature. My system runs about 78-79 deg. constant but a few days this summer hit 83 deg before I noticed and the Xenia started...

New pics @ 15 months 75g SPS reef

I just happened to show up at the LFS to drop off a bunch of Xenia I had pruned and he was unpacking 20 corals and a few fish from ORA. They were all spoken for except the Pearl Berry which was priced at $42. I really wanted the Red Planet too but I'll have to wait a couple weeks for the next...

New pics @ 15 months 75g SPS reef

Thanks guys. ACe25, from your avatar, it looks like we have the same taste in fish. I have a couple Leopard Wrasses as well. A Bipartitus and an Ornatus. I'm waiting for my LFS to get me a Potter's Leopard. Yous looks great.

    Powerhead

Amp, Please let me see some pics of your tank with 160x turnover rate. Alot of my SPS have turned into thick brutes at just 40x turnover rate.

    Powerhead

I agree but what do we refer to as "spindly"? This becomes very subjective. Anything more than 10-15x per hour is healthy for SPS but growth can be very different. The difference can be anywhere from 1/8th an inch per month to 1/2 inch per month. These are extremes but still possibilities. It's...

    Powerhead

I have 40X flow in my 75 with just the 2 Seio 1500's not counting the return flow. SPS don't need to be hammered with any kind flow wether it be laminar or dispersed. Excess flow for SPS, only causes the coral to grow thicker. SPS just needs random flow in the range of 15-20x. Mind you, more...

New pics @ 15 months 75g SPS reef

I picked up a new Acro from my LFS today and realized I had not taken any shots in the past few months, so here goes. ORA Pearl Berry Rose Mille #1 Rose Mille #2 Cerialis Acro that RTN'd 3 months ago but hung on due to a bit of tissue and a polyp or two and is growing back over dead...

    Back to the reef

The best book I have read is "The Conscientious Marine Aquarist" by Robert M. Fenner. http://www.amazon.com/Conscientious-Marine-Aquarist-Commonsense-Professional/dp/1890087998/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1226599568&sr=1-1
