Hey Jumko. The requirements to keep a betta fish healthy is pretty low right? A 3 gallon bowl, no filtration, no air pump and no light needs to be purchased, will be fine for a betta?

I used Pool Filter sand myself, and it looks fantastic in my tank. But yes, you're absolutely right, it seems to be much more work, which is why I switched back to gravel. But man, pool filter sand is dirt cheap compared to gravel. I have like a 50lb bag that ill never use again.

Well if you have a hospital tank and only 1 sick fish, its very possible to treat it without using chemicals. Im not sure of the temperature tolerance of bettas and/or guppies, but I read to treat Ich naturally, raising the temperature to some around 84-86F for tropical fish should be alright...
