    Spiny Eels and Kuhli Loaches

I was planning on having zig zags or zebra spiny eels. Of course my substrate will be sandy! Thanks everyone so much for your help. I didn't think I could keep them together and now I know. Yay! The kuhlis will be full grown when they are put together.

    Spiny Eels and Kuhli Loaches

I'm setting up what I was told was a 40 gal. aquarium. It's four feet long by 18 x 12 so whatever that is. I'm putting one or a group of spiny eels depending, not sure yet. I already have some kuhli loaches that are full length in a 30 gal. I wasn't going to put them together but I thought maybe...

Keeping Zig Zags w Flower Shrimp

Thank you for the info. I was planning on letting the shrimp get to their full length before getting the spiny eels. Is a forty gal. long going to be enough space for a few of the eels or should I only get one?

Keeping Zig Zags w Flower Shrimp

Can you keep zig zag spiny eels with singapore flower shrimp? The zig zags get 3-7" and the shrimp 3-4". It would be in a 40 gal. planted and with lots of hiding spaces.

Help! What to do with Kriby...

Actually I do have plans for a bigger aquarium for him and some of the others. I want it to be a 120 gal. but I also have a 40 that's waiting to be repaired. This is just for now until I move. So far there hasn't been any problems with the shark, it just hangs out on one side in this driftwood...

Help! What to do with Kriby...

Ok. So maybe she's better and maybe she's not... I can't get her out of the plastic structure. I know she's in there, I'm pretty sure she's still alive. Come out! Come out!

Oops, water is pretty hard. And yes, no diatoms here!

    pH advice, recommend solution

I was thinking about 'stuffing my filter with peat'. I would like to have softer water and I like the brown water. My hard is pretty hard, around or above 8 ph. Just hard water here. But my fish are doing fine so I'm not sure I should mess with it. Probably shouldn't, but all my fish are soft...

    Flourite Feedback?

Oh yeah! I had cories in black sand for years and they loved it! They like to dig depressions in the sand and rest in them, plus the sand is more delicate for their barbels. One reason straight up flourite isn't so great for them, the edges on it is pretty jagged. What have you heard about sand...

    Flourite Feedback?

The black flourite is bigger than sand, around the size of smaller gravel. Say... 4 mm or so... I defiantly recommend the flourite. I never add fertilizer and my plants grow beautifully. But a layer of laterite on the bottom is helpful because it releases the nutrients and minerals slower. You...

    Flourite Feedback?

There is one big problem with sand that you may want to be aware of... The fact that it starts to clump and ends up with stagnant areas that hold toxins. Because of this you have to be sure to stir it up every so often, not just the surface area. I had a aquarium with a layer of laterite on the...

    Black Hair Algae

I don't really want to use any sort of chemicals in my aquarium because of the risk to my inverts and loaches, no matter how small this may be. I was aware that you can dip the plants in the stuff but I don't see how this is really going to help the problem. Having to constantly uproot them...

    Black Hair Algae

I have a 30 gal. aquarium. It has several species of crypts. and some giant hairgrass (eleocharis). I'm having alot of trouble with the eleocharis, esp. being coated with black hair algae. I know this type of plant can be difficult and I'm about to give up. Almost all of of crypts are uneffected...

Help! What to do with Kriby...

Hi. I have a kribensis with finrot. I have her quarantiened and have already treated her with melafix and pimafix according with the instructions. She's looking better but some of her scales are gray so I want to move her to the main display tank. But her tail is gone and her swimming is...
