1 in 4 mammals will be extinct

Not trying to start anything (just giving my own personal opinion), but haven't our technologies been doing the natural selection for us? We invent the technology, and it helps us survive, but based on our technology is what ensures we survive. Now, due to our technology, we don't have any natural predators aside from ourselves, so is this really natural selection? What is selecting us that makes it natural? Our weapons can kill and we cannot adapt to fight our own weapons since they kill so fast and well. This is natural?

We have sickly/disabled/weak genes in our society, if natural selection still existed in us, would they be here? Would there be people who are less able? By saving and ensuring everyone can survive and reproduce (including the weak), are we not weakening our genes? Are we not leading us to our own demise? This continuing, wouldn't our genes become so filled with problems that should've been eradicated during natural selection? We are ethical beings, we wish for everyone to survive. But isn't this leading us to a weak future? Of course I don't want to go out and just kill all the less able people heartlessly, but isn't this something we are bringing upon ourselves?

everything must come to an end eventually. to think that our existence on this earth is perpetual, is a blind belief in itself.

True, but are we not bringing it upon ourselves earlier than nature would have intended? This is a very enigmatic topic we are trying to breach into, but is "We are all gonna die anyways." a suitable excuse for going out and committing crimes and murdering people?

no, because what our species evolves into, is what nature would intend. thats the point i'm trying to make.. we are not in control of our evolution.. we didn't say "hey, lets change our brains so that we can formulate and invent better tools", the evolution of the human race IS nature.

as for the second part of your statement.. that dabbles more into the ethics portion of the topic, and i don't remember anyone condoning criminal activity. this isnt about individual lives here.. it's about the evolution and eventual demise of a species as a whole.

I see your views, even if I don't agree with them. I do not hesitate to say that it is an insight by itself to see another's view, and neither do I hope to change your views. This debate could go on forever, since there is no right or wrong answer, but I will leave off here. It certainly is interesting to see another person's view on these matters though :grinyes:.

;) it's been a pleasure to have a mature, civil debate.

now if only others could do the same.....
