Then today I went to the local pet store and purchased a dwarf plant and a large umm forgot the name of it sowrd with a baby for the smaller planted tank.
I put the new plants in the large cichlid tank for now till I add the flourite and get the substraight ready.
Driftwood and sand stone so far enjoy.

I will be adding more life to the tank soon like some plants, shrimps and baby cray fish from my friend.
Check back for updates.

Ok the order is off but the above picture is before the one before, did you get that??!! I almost didnt.Well notice the fake plants i put in behind the sandstone. Yea looked like a void that needed plants so I added a plastic for temporary viewing =p Call me impaitent.
Well here is one more of the finished product

I think you should add the flourite right now.. well before the tank is set up. later on it will be a pain changing substrates when the plants are established

Hey Bk828

Yes I will likely add it tomorrow.
Then throw in the dwarf and baby sword.I got a 2 for one deal at the pet store in my area.=)
Here they are in the 40 waiting to go into the 10 gal.

Ok first someone tell me how do I properly cut the baby off the mommy?
Do I just clip it close to the new growth?

What kinda filter is it? like a built in wet/dry in the back inside that overflow box?
IMG_4520.jpg

I took the liberty to snap some shots for you.
It overflows into a sump then waterfall into a foam eclipse panel with charcoal then onto bio balls and back into the powerhead/pump back into the tank.I picked up this tank used for $50 bux on craigslist.

Should I not use my overflow for this?I was thinking do I need this much filtering?Posibly pick up the non overflow of this model?Well not having a hang on filter or remote canister if very convienent.
I believe after I have the tank situated I can probably just run the bio balls and the tank should self sustain, well hopefully =)

Yes, probably will.
I will add a few neon tetra and danio later to the mix after getting the bottom dwellers in first. My friend just hatched some baby crayfish. I will be adding some into this tank but am wondering will they eat my snails when they get larger? How fast do they grow? They just hatched 2 weeks ago so there about 1cm long. Small enough right now but when they get larger I guess I will also transfer them into larger tanks.

Then work on the fish. I am adding small plants and when they start to overgrow I will build a larger planted 40 gallon to transfer plants to.

Ok I have a question about c02.
Do I need co2 in this tank?
I want to add plants that do not need me to add c02.
Can plants look lush and hearty without c02?
Also I am running 2 12" 14 watt bulbs that came with the tank.
I ordered some plant gro lights so in 1 week I should have brand new bulbs.
Also Q.

People add heaters below/under the tank to promote rooth growth?
I was thinking of grabbing a lizard tank mat heater and possibly attach it to the underside of my tank.Possibly a stainless steel panel so the acrylic won't sagg from heat.

Also I bought some
API Leaf Zone.
Well see how good this stuff works. anybody else use API leaf zone with success?

Sound good???
