are there any ciclids that can live happily in a 10 gal
i was checking on the other parts of aquariacentral and most that i had thought of said 20 gal. minimum
i would really like some tiny fish that are as full of personality as ciclids but don't know of any

suggestions please

If you can get some lampropologus Multifasciatus i would recomend them to you!! they are awesome little cichlids and would do great in a ten gallon. try to get 1 male and 2 females, this will be hard because both sexes are similar looking. these fish live in little shells and are very cool! here is a good link to find out more http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/shelldweller_corner.php this site has info. on other shell dwellers as well that you might want to look at.

I have a 10 gallon with 2 rams in it, a male and a female. it's a planted tank with lots of little nooks and they seem to love it. I think they laid eggs somewhere because she looked as if her "chute" was down saturday and today she's looking thinner and the chute is gone (sorry, I forgot the name of it). I don't want to go poking around in the tank so we'll see what happens but I definitely recommend them. The are certainly comical as I approach the tank.....

definitely recommend a small group of neolamprologus multifasciatus. a sand bottom with many shells for them to move and defend is a great tank. These are probably my most interesting and active tank. they constantly move the sand around getting the shells to drop and turn in the position they want and then they re-bury the shells with just the opening showing. they flare and display to eachother and the males will "bow up" to eachother like a couple of bulls. It's funny to watch the little community I have. I have 13 juveniles from the same family in a 20 gallon long. the only way to tell male from female is when they are fullgrown, the males are larger. a group of 5 or 6 juveniles or a known trio of adults would do fine in a 10. My only mistake was using too large a power filter and I have too much current. I will be changing to a large sponge filter instead and keeping my aquaclear for a different tank. Kyle

don't forget neolamprologus brevis. They're pair brooders, and they share the same shell...really quite the devoted couple! Mine pair tended to eat their fry...again and again.

A ten is fine for one pair of dwarf cichlids but first you should find out your tap water hardness. If you don't know, ask your local store as most likely they are the same as you. Soft water for South Americans & hard water for Africans. Dangerdoll, the "chute" is called an 'Ovipositor'.

hate resurfacing old threads but I am thinking maybe doing dwarf cichlids in a smaller tank maybe my ten or maybe move my 20 into a 55 and then do them in it
