planted tank, sand substrate, not too heavy of a bioload? I will be using hagen co2 system, so I can't have a lot of co2 gas off.

thanks

I'm a huge fan of AquaClears but the heavy flow rate will work against you for CO2 control. I'd probably go with a Penguin Mini. They have a mild flow rate and the bio wheel will help with the oxygenation without diffusing too much of the CO2. However, I'd only put a sponge in there and clean that often since the plants would compete with the carbon for nutrients.

Since it is a small tank why not go for one of those under water corner filters they work really good on small tank granted when you go to clean it your hands will get wet but hey your hands will be getting wet while caring for plants anyways.

I agree with the corner sponge filter. Easy maintenance--just rinse the sponge. I use one in my planted 20, and I just turn it off, pull the sponge, use the siphon to pick up any detritus that falls of the sponge, rinse the sponge and put it back. Pretty slick.

I used to use corner sponge filters about ten years ago when I first got in to fishkeeping. I had been out of the hobby for about eight years and when I set back up my ten gallon I went looking for one and i couldn't find one so I got one of the wal-mart specials. A couple of weeks ago I was setting up a fry tank and thought one would be good for that and went looking again. This time I scoured to marketplace went everywhere and couldn't find one. Can you mail order them from somewhere. Oh yeah I think either suggestion would work well and sorry for hijacking the thread.

I've seen corner filters at Big Al's and That Fish Place. I can't recall if I've ever seen them at the LFS? Odd.

My LFS has them they got all kinds of them they come in the small tank setups as well. Not weird or is it??? All your fish stores dont have them but the one near my house does which one is weird???

Thanks for the link GER. I didn't see them at the LFS petsmart or petco. I thought I looked at BigAl's but I might have missed them. I've never heard of that fish place, do they do good business? (once again sorry for completely hijacking the thread)
