Oh look another stocking thread haha. I have had a 10gallon tank setup for 3 years and it currently has 1 platy and her 12 fry in it. I talked to my LFS and they said that once they were abit bigger that they would take them for store credit. I did not plan on my platy having babies I bought her pregnant I guess lol. So anyways I wanted to know how many fish I could keep in my 10 gallon comfortably.

I want colorful but active fish. I was thinking of keeping 1 platy and possibly getting a swordtail but is there any schools of fish I could get? Possibly a school of 6 or 8 Rummynose tetras? Or would they be better off in a 20gal?

Another thing would be a bottom feeder of some sort. I don't think I could do corys since they should be kept in groups of 6 right?

I have a small aquaclear filter on it right now (I don't really like it all that much) but will be upgrading to a Penguin Biowheel 100B and I have a 50watt Stealth heater. I was thinking of putting some lowlight plants in there in the future.

Any other stocking suggestions you think I should look into please don't hesitate to say something! I am always looking for ideas that I didn't think of. Plus it will be a little bit before my fry are big enough to give to the petstore.
 
You would have to get a female Swordtail if you get one. Males can get 5"+ (counting tail), and are aggresive. And saying female swordtails and platies look the same, it would be pointless (I think).

6-8 Rummynose might work, but you couldn't add anything else. Or possibly 4 or 5 Rummynose, and 3 cories.
 
Ok so does that mean I can keep 1 platy? Or can I just have 4-5 Rummynoses and 3 cories and that's it. I'd like to keep just 1 platy from my fry (I guess I can give mom back to the petstore too) :) since this is my first time ever having baby fish!
 
You can keep your platy with a school of about 8 Rummynose Tetra. If you want Cories, I suggest getting 4 Corydoras Habrosus and switching from Rummynose Tetras to smaller fish such as 6 Ember Tetras or 6 Neon Tetras. You have to keep up with your water changes though. You can keep a platy in there too, or one of her babies and continue the generation.

By the way, livebearers store sperm in their body so that could mean she could be pregnant again. Just let the other fish eat the fry.
 
Oh yes those ember tetras are really pretty! But I'd probably have to order them threw AC since I have never ever seen them in stores here.
