Hey all! I have a cycled empty 10 gallon right now, that I was going to use as my qt, but I'm thinking I'm going to upgrade that to a 20 since I'll have goldies in there from time to time. I really don't have any idea what I want, other than some pretty colors. And no shrimp or frogs. A snail or two is ok. What kinds of fish can you guys recommend that's relatively easy and 10 gallon friendly?

If you want easy and fun get an actinic bulb (if you have a hood that only takes screw in bulbs the one for fluorescents only cost a few bucks more), some black gravel, and some glofish and black light reactive plants. It's an interesting addition. I started with glofish and still have a 10g with them in it that I will be changing to look like that.

Other options
dwarf puffers
endlers
mollies (can sell the babies to LFS maybe)

No baby makin! Lol. I'll have to research the puffers, that sounds neat. And I totally forgot about glofish! My boyfriend freaking loves those things...I'm thinking this will be a bedroom tank, so those might be good.

Endlers are guppies right? And how many glofish do you think I could put in there?

Yeah endlers are a pure form of guppy and are recommended not to be kept with guppies because of bloodline dillution (I don't think that makes much of a difference to you though because you won't be messing with breeding). They have such interesting markings. There's someone selling them in the classified on here for a really good price by not sure if many are left. If there aren't I'm sure they'd have some soon. I definitely recommend getting them on here if the prices are iffy elsewhere. I'd say 8-10 glofish in there. 10 is probably pushing it but if you're on top of it it's doable.

I love them too actually. Mine have been spawning a lot. Doesn't matter much because they eat their eggs up and in a small tank it's pretty much impossible for a baby to make it but I've actually been letting mine spawn in a smaller tank so I could have a few more. Currently have 6 baby glofish (this was out of probably 60 eggs but it was spur of the moment and with me being new to the hobby I had to get a fresh sponge filter and had no cycled media)

I dont think your allowed to sell those...just keeping em? I love baby fish just not in my tanks lol. Is there a way to sex glofish?

Yeah I'm keeping them. I thought I could get a license to sell them really easily and pay royalties and all that but I was sorely mistaken. I can't believe I have to pay money for the privilege to pay them more money >.<

Well they don't have any specific identifiers for sexing them but now that I've had mine as long as I have I know which are male and which are females. It's that basic checking for big bellies versus more streamlined bodies. It's all a guessing game though

IMO glofish need a 20 gallon tank. they're just modified zebra danios, same requirements. I hate that just bc they make a new fish that people decide that they can have a small tank so they can sell small glofish tanks.

I wonder if my goldies would eat any fry...I'd feel so terrible though...

My girlfriend and I love babies. Ever since the first time the glo's spawned we've gone nuts about wanting to breed. Lol if we see a pregnant female Molly at our lfs we always want to buy her. We got all 3 of our females when they were pregnant and 1 turned out not to be but we've had a brood of Dalmatian mollies and a brood of the black with yellow fins (I think that's yucatan but I'm not sure because I've never seen a pic of one with he yellow on the fins). So we will keep a few (for my girlfriends 55 once we can afford a filter and heater. She loves guppies and mollies. Probably will end up with a giant tank full of adults and babies) for more breeding. We just love raising fry lol
