I had another post going asking about a 5 gallon tank stocking but in the meantime the wife was at the store getting a 10 gallon tank and the 5 gallon will be going back. The tank is a family present and a way to introduce our 4 and 2 1/2 year old to aquariums. The tank is up and I'm cycling right now and I'm trying to finalize a fish list and want some feedback on my selection:

5 tetras of some variety, 3 cory's and 2 dwarf gourami's are what I am thinking of.

I'd also like a ghost shrimp.

What I am looking for is something neat for the kids to watch and fish that all get along (while I work towards achieving world peace!)

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I'm no expert but I think that sounds pretty good. But instead of 1 ghost shrimp I would add 4 or 5 of them. They are pretty tiny and I don't think they contribute that much to the bioload and they are super cheap, usually like .25 cents each. Plus they are the neatest things to watch!! One of my is full of eggs right now, has been carrying them around for almost a week, wondering when they're gonna hatch!! Good luck and have fun!!

id add 1 or 2 more tetras, and remove one gourami.

tetras aer schooling fish, and need at least 6 to be happy.

tiger barbs are quite fun to watch i currently have 6(8 total 1 albnio and 1 green tiger) which are in 2 schools in my 29gal they are schooling fish i added 4 new ones but they keep together. i also have a male and female betta which are fun to watch my 8 month old sits there and watches them

Whoever decided that gouramis are peaceful was confused, especially the dwarf ones. You would be better off with one if you decide to have it. No female/male bettas in the same tank, at least something as small as a 10...I think there may be aggression issues there too.
Look at small coreys, I think there are pygmy ones maybe.
Are you going to have live plants?

tiger barbs would be too big for a 10g tank. If you keep the d. gouramis in the list, I would go with just one to be safe. Also, make sure you stay away from the tetras that are known to be nippy, they may go after the gourami.

My 10 gallon

Has
1 Blue Paradise Gourami
4 Zebra Danios (Got 5 to start with but 1 died)

I am working on getting the pictures uploaded.

Thanks for everyone's responses. We bought 2 bleeding heart tetras as well as three ghost shrimp. We'll see how those do and then add some more next week.
