On my last post I wrote that I was going to use 2 Emperor 400 filters an my new tank. You guys wrote replies about that I should get a canister filter instead. Well I did some research and decide to take the advice of the fish gods and get myself a canister filter. I decided on an Ehiem 2217 and 1 Emperor 400 filter. Will this be enough for the tank? Also are these good filters? I had 1 more question to ask, my emoeror filter makes a sound from the motor, is this normal. Are these filters usually noisy?

Depends. I can hear my filters when I am standing next to them, but no more. You might want to take it apart and make sure the impeller is seated properly and that there isn't any loose in there that could be rattling. Mine will be a bit noisier when first starting up, or if they are pulling in bubbles, but otherwise they are very quiet.

...and just to add about the noise. The new bio wheels are very stiff and you'll probably hear a lot of splashing noises for a while. This will go away as the wheels get full of bacteria. I have 3 400's and other than a little hum I find them quite quiet. OG is quite right in the seating of the impeller. I find that I have to push quite hard on the impeller assembly to get it to stop rattling. Water flow settings also effect the noise level.
