10g newbie ideas

i have a 10g tank that im setting up to use as a grow out tank for my krib fry. the hood has a standard flourescent light(15watt). im using peagravel bought from the home store. AquaClear 150 filter and 50watt Ebo Jager heater. there will also be an air pump/air stone set up as well.

what kind of plants could i put in this set up? i would only like to put in one or two. will the current substrate be sufficient? i havent been able to find a place that sells flourite near me. also, will a CO2 system be necessary? id like to keep this tank as simple as possible from a maintenance stand point.

am i asking too much or should i just chunk another plastic plant in there and be done with it? my local PetSmart had some plants, but most werent named. a few had some tags with little info on them. is there a good site online for plant identification? thanks for any advice or info.

Hey, definately give live plants a shot. I am by no means advanced at growing live plants but have done a tremendous amount of research in preparation for the 55 planted I'm setting up. I think first you need to decide if you want a planted tank or just a couple of plants. You seem to be favoring the latter and in that case you can keep certain plants without adding anything. Some plants that will survive ( maybe not flourish) are anything from the anubia family. Java fern and Java moss do well with low lights. I have had green hygrophilia in a tank similar to yours and it grows very fast. It's a nice stem alternative to the anubias and ferns. I say go for the real deal it can only help your tank and the fish inside. Good luck!
