10g tank cycling and stocking

I just bought a ten gallon tank and am trying to cycle it and I have heard a variety of different ammonia balances to have it at, I have heard 4 ppm up to 8 ppm and I was wondering if anyone knew what is right?

I was also wondering what kind of fish would go good together and I was hoping for some ideas, I like groumies.

That's the guide I used, and it worked fine...you can use grocery store ammonia, just shake it up, and if it doesn't sud up (no bubbles) you can use it.

If you want to go with gouramies, I would say your choices are limited to dwarf and flame/honey varieties, for most others get too large. If you can find croaking gouramies, one pair would probably fit.
