but thats ok I'm a big boy I can handle it, I have a fall back. betta TANK!!!
Looking for info to setup a 10gal Betta tank. Are there special needs deferent than a community tank like food, decor, water parameters? Are there any types of Betta's to avoid or perhaps to look for. I think this will be a good way to get over the big tank loss.

You really don't need to do anything special

Give us some ideas of what you had in mind to see what

you are thinking for some ideas or help

Well it's not much different from a normal tank. I suppose the one of the only differences would be whether you wanted a single male betta or several females.

If it's only a single male, then most other community fish will fare well with him. Stay away from gouramis or any other anabantids though, since they'll fight. Also avoid any nippy fish such as tiger barbs.

If you're thinking of several females, get them around the same size and introduce them into the tank at the same time. Avoid gouramis for them also. And keeping male and female bettas together is asking for trouble unless you're breeding and know what you're doing.

Maybe a little gentler filtration since bettas like slower-moving water better and no sharp plastic plants that could rip their delicate fins. But really, there's not much else to it.

I have a ten gallon planted tank with one male crowntail betta, eight glowlight tetras and various snails. So far, it's been an easy tank to maintain.

Betta have no really special requirements. Get the temp right and any normal water conditions are fine.

Only thing they dont like is really strong currents from powerfull filters. A gentle filter like an air powered sponge is great, or a power filter that you can turn down the flow.

They like a bit of cover, some tall plants or ornaments.

You could set up a nice 10gal tank with your betta, some basic plants and a small group of bottom dwellers like Cory cats or Kihli Loaches. They live with most small short finned schooling fish, but bottom dwellers are less likely to even be noticed by the betta.

With decor be sure to avoid anything rough - they like to hide in things and can rip their fins/scratch scales off on rouch objects. I agree with the gentle filtration as well. As far as stock - go to an LFS you trust and ask them which betta's have been there the longest, if it survived in a cup for more than a week chances are its pretty strong. If you go with a male - make sure that the little fold that comes out when they flare isn't out when they aren't flaring.

Good Luck!!
