I started a new tank about 3 weeks ago. Added plants about a week ago and now my ammonia is around .50ppm, nitrite is between .50-1.0ppm, and nitrate is 40ppm. Did a 50% water change and added prime a few days ago. Yesterday added more prime but cant get the levels down. I have a biological media and a sock filter. I assume this is just new tank syndrome? I have a couple mollies that are still alive and seem to be doing ok. Before adding more chemicals I should just wait?

Do 75% water changes weekly or whenever ammonia or nitrite levels are above 0ppm. Nitrates should be kept below 20ppm for better fish health.
