I am getting a 125 gallon tank next week and I have a question about how much filtration i should put in there.

I currently have 46 gallon with an Emperor 400 on it.

I was planning on putting 3 Emperor 400's on the 125 gallon tank. Is that enough filtration?

The reason i want to use the Emperor's is because i have a bulk emperor cartridges and media lying around that i bought on Ebay and i figured i would be able to use them instead of buying a totally different filter with new cartridges and all that stuff. Also you can get an Emperor 400 on Ebay for like $30.

Going into the 125 gallon will be:

2 6" severums
1 7" jack Dempsey
1 4" Parrott
1 5" Green Terror

Thanks for the help.

Well the Emperor 400 is rated for 400 GPH and up to an 80 gallon tank. If you were to use three of them you should not have a problem. That is a good amount of water turn over.

Thanks for the reply. The guy at my LFS said i also might have to put a powerhead pump in there to direct water flow. Do you think that is neccessary also? I would prefer not to do that.

I don't think a powerhead is necessary with the filteration that you are planning on for that tank. The water should turnover nicely for you and there will be plenty of water movement.

I would grab a Eheim wet/dry canaster filter, I have a classic working my 16 g it works great I hear at Big Al's store that the wet and dry canasters are superior filters they break down waste 2/3's faster than conventional power filters or canasters. This is what I hear

i'd almost say 2 canister filters might be good or a canister and 2 emp 400's....i feel like you get better filtration out of the canisters on a big tank, but maybe that's just me
