I know this question has been asked many times before, but im looking to stock my 12 gallon tank with just 1 fish. I want it to be a medium size fish (id rather not go with a dwarf gourami), i would like something defferent, something weird.

Apistos are very colorful. A good choice.

If you are willing to change a bit, how about a turtle or an aquatic lizard? They certain create a different impression than a guorami or other run of the river fish. But you would have to lower the water level a bit and be a bit more conscientious about water changes than you would with most fish.
