hi everyone i just purchased a 135 gallon tank and i want to know what kind of filter do you guys recomend for a big tank like this and how much would it cost me

Do you want a HOB style filter or a canister filter like a fluval?

I don't think there really is a HOB filter designed for a 135 ... unless you purchase a 3 or 4 of them.

I have a 120g and I run an Aqua Clear 110 and a Rena Filstar XP3 Canister. I love them both, the water stays crystal clear and they are so easy to set up and clean. The XP3 is really quiet! PetSmart has then online - $39.99 for the Aqua Clear 110 and $104.99 for the XP3. I'm not sure that either alone would be enough but they work wonderfully together. The stores will usually honor the online prices.

I think you could get by with two larger HOB's (AC 110 or Emp 400) as long as the bioload is not too big. However, you would probably need a powerhead or two for circulation. My vote would be a large HOB and a canister.

I have a 125 (new set up) with just a PennPlax Cascade 1000 canister filter running. This filter is only rated to 265gph. I know I will need more filtration later, but do you guys think it is ok for now?

There are 8 danios and a baby common pleco in the tank.
