Hello,
I now have a male betta pugnax in my 15 gallon long aquarium with java fern, java moss, vals and some duckweed. I am thinking of doing a S/E Asian Biotope with my male B. Pugnax, a female B. Pugnax and a small school of harlys. Opinions? Other Suggestions?

Edit: Yeah, I know that the male/female may fight and that is why if I do get her, the tank will be really heavily planted (how I like it :3). Oh, and I have read way too much for my own good on them ;)

+1, try, and see what happens, hopefully, doesn't get too extreme in fighting as they most likely won't see each other that much with all those plants.

Sounds like a fun tank! I have a 15 gallon with a pair of checkerboard cichlids, some neons and some pygmy cories. It is heavily planted as well. It's really my favorite tank, just peaceful and quiet and my checkerboards have even spawned. My male checkerboard will sometimes chase the female a bit, but nothing serious since there are a lot of plants and hidey holes in there.

Nice tank. I was tossing up smaller cichlids, african butterfly fish and something else. I wasn't even thinking of getting a B. pugnax, but I saw him and wanted him. I hope my pugnax pair will spawn in the future :P

it would be really interesting to see if they would work out in that small of a tank as i have always wanted to do something similar with the pair of bettas and hopefully everything works out :)

Go for it! Sounds good, and good luck!

If they do spawn, I am really interested in watching the mouth-brooding behaviours. It *should* work if I plant it heavily enough. These 2 months are going to be soooo looonnnggg :D
