Basically the title says it all... Could I fit 2-3 Oscars in a 150 gallon tank?

I would also like to add a pleco or two, or SOMETHING that'll eat the algae, maybe 10 apple snails?

I will work ALMOST anything with a 55g-150g... i kinda want a lake tanganyika tank, too... :D

I think that you could easily keep your 3 oscars plus a pleco. You can add as many snails as you want within reason. Just add them slowly. Only add while there is algae for them to eat. I'm not sure how big and apple snail is, but your oscars might feast on them if they are the right size. Your tank will seem empty while they are young, but it will come to life as they grow.

Well I think you could. I'm positive you could have 2 in there, but I'm almost sure that you could have another one. That's plenty of swimming space for them. I wouldnt go with snails though, I'd definitely get the pleco, they dont take up any room.

No problemo,
You can keep three (3) adult 12"+ Oscar's and two (2) adult 12"+ Pleco's in that 150gal tank.
Just a couple pointers...
You'll be needing extra heavy-duty bio & mechanical filtration, I'd recommend atleast 10-20x turnover thru multiple filters, even if using only canisters (canister turnover is normally recommended at 5x). I'd recommend a combination of filtration such as canister and HOB, or go the large wet/dry sump route...
You'll be needing to vacumn poop/gravel 2-3x's a week atleast.
These fish are very, very, very messy eaters/poopers!

I'd do one (1) Oscar, a Pleco or a Catfish and a school of five (5) Silver Dollars so as to have a more diverse display of fish.
This would give you aprox one inch (1") of fish per 2.75gal's of water, which would be a good ratio.
Do it up as a S.American bio-tope tank, it'd be great!

3 oscars and a pleco would be no problem from a bio-load standpoint. You also have a good chance to be okay from an agression standpoint, but you always take a chance with multiple oscars of heavy fighting as they grow.

I'd do it, but if you happen upon a pair there will be issues. otherwise they should be fine. No matter how big your apple snails get, eventually the oscars will get big enough to eat them, and will do so with much enthusiasm. Oscars really like snails of all shapes and sizes. MTS's are the only option I've found that will survive, and it takes a bunch of them to eat much algea.

full grown apple snails wont get eaten but they will produce a lot of waste once they get tennisball sized. a big pleco would also produce more waste than it cleans up i would just get an algae scraper and that will free up some space for something else.

If you do the Pleco, just be sure to put some wood in the tank and feed him some sweet potatoe every once in a while. They actually need wood.

I think I'll do the 3 oscars and I dunno, something to fill the bottom? Pictus may work, I think, since they are so spiky and get about 1/2 the size of an oscar. IF this won't work, I think I'll stick in a bichir or two.

Would an arowana fit in it??? Just curious... :D Maybe, 2 oscars and an arowana?
