I got an 2.5 Gallon betta tank, some stones on the bottom and a small decor. My question is, do I need a filter? And if so, do they make an small under gravel filter for it?
yes, they do need a filter. I am not sure if they make small undergravels for a tank that small but you could probably doctor one for it.... but they also make filters specific for that size of tank too, so why not just go that way. The upkeep is a lot easier to deal with.
you will probably get mixed answers on if you need a filter or not. personally i would add one just to make for a more stable environment and keep the water moving a little. i have never seen an undergravel filter that small but i have seen little filters made for betta containers.
Im just asking because its on my desk, and i have a glass top on it, cause it needs as much cover as possible due to me having 3 cats. Maybe i could get a filter and cut the glass around it?
I've got a UGF on my little 2 gallon that I use to grow duckweed for my goldfish (alright there may be a few ghost shrimp in there as well.... and java moss... and elodea) It works pretty well. It did come with the tank though. I have no idea where to pick one up.
I made a simple little sponge filter/background for my tank at work. It's just a peice of black sponge that I got from a pond replacement filter pad ($10 at home depot and so many uses). I then stuck two airstones in the sponge and tada... instant filter. (I had a small aerator sitting around). It works great and I really like how it looks.
