So I have one betta in a 2.5g that is currently cycling. I am about 18 days into the cycle. Temperature 78 degrees.
Yesterday's water readings were:
Ammonia .25
Nitrite .25
Nitrate 0
ph 7
I did one 50% water change and everything went down to 0.
Today's readings:
Ammonia <.25
Nitrite .25
Nitrate 0
After One Water Change:
Ammonia 0
Nitrite <.25
One More Change:
Nitrite 0

So I put the lights out in the tank and came home a few hours later, and he was "lying" behing the heater. Then I tried feeding him and he wouldn't eat! Now he's swimming around, but I'm wondering why he won't eat??? Could he be stressed from nitrites, even though there is none now? He was swimming near the bottom (odd!) and his face looks darker... Could he have just been groggy from "sleeping"? Maybe I'm worrying too much...

Hmmm.. Maybe he is constipated  . I think 5 pellets might be a little too much food. Also, did you check that the ph and temp of the water you added to the tank were the same? He's probably fine, just keep an eye on him and your water conditions, it sounds like you're doing a good job keeping things down to a minimum!

Uh oh... does he need Prune Juice? hehe
No but seriously, the ph was at 7, and the water temp going in and out is always at 78 -79 degrees...

Oh yeah, and thanks, I'm really trying to make the fish I have as comfy as possible. I'd like to add a couple dwarf frogs in with him, but not so sure of how stocked that would be. Maybe I should get a 5 gallon, but then I have to cycle again :(
Next time is definatly fishless though!

A 5 gallon would be great for the betta and frogs, and actually once you get the small tank cycled, what you can do is put the betta in a cup or something, move all the gravel and tank water to the bigger tank, and move your filter over. This is what I did when I moved my betta from a 2.5 g to a 10g, and never went through cycle on it, I just topped off the water over the next couple of days and all was well!! Is he swimming normally?

That woudl work fine ( I answered you other post about cycling the tank). But a simple 5 gallon glass tank will be much cheaper probably. I would price it out. You just need a heater, tank, glass cover and maybe some rocks. I use a small shop light on top off my tank for lighting. It cost 9 dollars at walmart plus 4 more for a timer. Without live plants any light source will do.

As for eating often it take a fish awhile to adjust to a new food or new home. He will begin to eat when he gets really hungry. I am just starting my guy on pellets now after a year. So far he only wants flake food and frozen.

One of my bettas wraps himself around a tube at the bottom when he sleeps. I think he may have been groggy... it takes them a few minutes to wake up cuz they can be pretty lazy :)

heh, my betta (when he was in the 18) would let himself be wrapped around the filter intake. at first i was horribly worried that he was going to somehow kill himself, but he thought it was a game. he'd swim off to get air, then float around for a bit till the filter grabbed him again.

also, just a not about the ADF, i had one latch onto the bettas tail (like, eating it) again, just a note.
