2 Bettas 1 tank

Aww how come you're getting rid of your fish?

Also, watch out for the moonlight in with him. Some bettas have a very bad attitude towards gouramis...I maybe should clarify that I mean a pearl gourami instead:o

It can be done, though. Just watch out very carefully.

I guess that I really don't NEED to get rid of them, I am just geting bored with the ones that I have. I ahve about 10 Black Mollies, 5 Blue Moon Platys, and 1 Swordtail in the 30 gallon tank. I am thinking about keeping the Swordtail and getting a couple more of those, but I don't know yet. The Mollies are defentaly going though. I am going to keep the Bettas, the Gourami and the Acei.
You did say a Male Pearl Gourami. Is there a difference between the temperment between different types of Gouramis? If that is the case then I will just put the Moonlight back in his tank when I get home in a little bit.

What I was trying to say in a jumbled, incoherent spattering was:

Since you have such a big tank - and like the look of something "majestic" and pretty like a betta in it - that you could add a gourami as a centerpiece rather than a betta. I think the moonlight gourami would go peachily (depending on what else you get, obviously) in the big tank - so long as the male betta isn't in with him.

Then, I specified a male pearl gourami because they're so goshdarn beautiful! Such great fins and coloration. And rather peaceful.

To answer your question on a side note, yes, *generally* male gouramis are more territorial (which can be read as aggressive) towards other gouramis, esp. other males. The females seem to be a bit more mellow:)

we have done this experiment, put 2 males in a fish carrier, no fghting, put 6 in a bowl, no fighting, but we put 2 in a 70 gallon planted tank, and they went at it like wild dogs!

do you know that in asia they breed them for fighting and bet on them as we do human boxers?

and no im serious, no betta was killed dont worry, the blue one threw in the towel and the emergency net rushed into action. :D

Breeding for fighting is very common. You would be amazed at some of the matches; you dont really get to witness the peak levels of agression that these fish are capable of unless you see the special combat strains. Ive seen some in Bangkok, but I hear the best are in Burma (not sure if you can go there these days though). Sorry if you think it is cruel, it very well may be :( , but it is almost a sport in some places. They arent always fought to the death, either; The only one I ever put up in a fight dominated the other one, but usually (and in my case) the fish are seperated as soon as one clearly submits (they usually retreat to a corner and are left alone). Death matches are fierce, though, and I certainly wouldnt want to be a part of one. Because of the oxygen factor, most times the fish die from suffocation rather than wounds because they are unable to swim to the surface after their fins are severed. That is kinda ruthless. Please dont hate me, it is somewhat a cultural thing. I moved away from America at a young age so I am pretty accustomed to fish fighting. Far more humane than the belmont, no?

And good call Hans- They are less apt to fight in smaller areas, as strange as it may seem. Also if you throw in more than 2 fish they tend to mess with each other less. Go figure.

Yes, of course I know about that. I've seen the sites and pictures and whatnot. I would just hope that you wouldn't partake of such a nasty activity is all.

Glad that you clarified you don't. :)

dwf, I do know it goes on. Same as c0ck fighting, dog fighting, etc here in the states and elsewhere. I know it exists, but I still don't agree with it at all. I think it's very cruel. :(
