Now THAT is an idea i never thought of!! I'll look into that. It doesnt hurt them if they get wet??
Well, I have one for My iguana cage and keep a piece of plastic over it and then a piece of covering. You could do the same. place it in a large ziplock bag and then a nice piece of decorative cloth over that, under the bowl.

in my betta's 2G tank under the gravel - and it's dangerous! It doesn't shut itself off but heats continuously, so on day 2 (day before yesterday) I found the temp to be 88 degrees :mad2: ! Luckily, the poor fish seems to have survived unscathed. Now I'm looking for a replacement heater and in the meantime I keep unplugging and re-plugging the aforementioned piece of junk to keep the temp somewhat stable around 78.

Thankyou for the heads up! I was trying to get a better pic of it to see if it had a thermostat...Apparently not...Ok, back to the drawing board!

You can get smaller "Jr Heaters" at walmart for about 7$. They are made for tanks from 2-5 1/2 gallon tanks. You can't set them to the temp you like...so a thermometer is a must.
yeah those are not to bad, meaning i have never had a problem with them. I use them on a few of my tanks. But for bowl, i like the heating pad idea, that way you can not see the heater, and use some pretty cloth to hide it. :D

I would not use one that is not adjustable. Originally, I had three of those walmart one-temp ones and they just heated the tank up way too much.

Visatherme makes 6" heaters that I use on 2.5g tanks. I like them.

I wouldn't put any heater in a 2 gal tank. You run the risk of seriously cooking your fish. Nothing under 5 gals should be heated. If you keep your house at a decent temp and don't put your betta by the window, it sould be fine without heat.

See we up here in canada, paricularly north eastern ontario, well, the temp drops. Like it or not, house heated well or not, the temp just naturally drops at night. My goldy tank will drop 2 to 3 degrees by early morning. I beleive my owl needs to be heated.

same here in Colorado...

First of all, I don't like to sleep in an overheated room and then I don't see why I should heat the whole house at night while nobody needs it to be warm. The whole house is on a thermostat and between 10 pm and 6 am my indoor temp will drop down to 65. Comfy for me, but a bit chilly for my fish...
