2 Much Aireation??

Is it possible to have too much? I recently removed the carbon from my airlifts to medicate and the air movement increased a lot. Upon completion i replaced with new cartridges ( with carbon in them) and am still getting stronger air movement than before. I have always changed cartridges regulary and never encountered this before. will this hurt anything? The fish seem to like it and its not creating turbulance in the water. Thank you.
 
Is it possible for too much aeration? I dont think so. As long as the turbulance doesnt effect your fish your find. Add as much "aeration" as you want...

Of course this would be a different story if you had plants.....
 
If too much aeration,too little fish,plants will die slowly,i think,because the bubbles cause both oxygen and carbon dioxide to dissolve,i think.
 
All it will cause is turbulence..thats all...It would TAKE out oxygen...it will take out carbon dioxide though..so if you have plants..you would be in trouble..but for FISH more aeration would be better= more oxygen!! never heard of small fish dieing because of too MUCH oxygen...
 
Out-gasing of Co2 due to surface aggitation is minimal IMO, unless you are adding Co2 by extra ordinary means(DIY Yeast/Sugar or Presurized). No matter how much air you pump thru the water column, you will still have Co2 in the water. It is in the atmosphere, so it is in the water as well. You may be able to out-gas 2 to 3 ppm of Co2 from the fishes resporation, but that would be about it. So, IMO, Unless you are injecting Co2, you have nothing to lose by bumping up the air to those uplift tubes.

exactly. the gas content of the ambient air that the air pump is putting through the water is going to more closely match the water. you cannot 'add' more oxygen by adding more air pumps/stones, and the benefit of increased airflow thru the airlift tubes is increased overall flow throughout the system.
