I've been looking for an original Whisper 1 for a long time now.
It gave me the chance to compare it to the Tetra Whisper filters they make now.
And there's a BIG difference.
- The plastic is MUCH MUCH thicker.
- The tolerances are a lot tighter. On the new Whisper, the lid will wiggle back and forth about a 1/4". On the old one, it WILL NOT move. It comes out easily, but when it's in there, it's snug
- The Wonder Tube (intake) on the new Tetra model will wiggle right and left when inserted. On the old one, when it's in there it DOES NOT move.
- The impeller slides into the end of the Wonder Tube and comes out when you pull it out. Kind of a cool design, because you can clean the impeller without needing to take the filter off the back of the tank. When the impeller is on the end of the wonder tube on the old filter you can wiggle it back and forth far less than you can with the new one.
- This filter feels "quality." The Tetra version feels "cheap."
