Sad to say that the wifes 20 long had the heater stick in the on position. she lost all but 3 fish. :wall: I knew we should have replaced the topfin heater. my male betta that we had for about a 1 1/2 years and 2 female bettas and 3 green catfish did not make it. just wanted to let any one with a topfin heater to beware because the first one we had. the glass on it busted and now this one gets stuck on and kills almost all.

Sorry to hear of your loss, but any make of heater can do that. I think it is better to use 2 heaters per tank at min wattage so that if one should stick on it can't over heat to easily.Using ext controllers also helps but you still have a run away.

That really sucks!

wow, bummer. that kind of scares me, since my heater is doing 30 degrees c right now because of my ick problem. in the past, my heater actually got fish stuck by it, and as a result i lost 2 fish....

Oh, ouch! I'm so sorry to read that. :(

Thanks everyone. it just sucks when you leave in the mornin and they are fine but when you get home in the evening you find out that this had happened. but the 3 that survived are doing great in another tank. and now the wife is going to re scape the 20L.
and I am going to get 2 heater rated at half so if one gets stuck it should not bring the temp up to much.

That is the pits. Unfortunately if you participate in this hobby long enough you will almost certainly have some sort of technical problem that imperils or kills your fish.
