my brother wants to stock a new 20 gallon hes getting and asked me what fish he should get. i thought mabye some tetras and guppies would be good? what do u guys think?

Sure you could get tetras and guppies, but depends on which kinds, If you get fancy guppies, you may want to stay away from most tetras as they will nip at the fancy guppies' tails, which would in turn really stress out your guppies. If you're not getting fancy guppies you may be okay.

:D

he wants mainly neon tetras for his new tank and regular guppies luckily

10 neons
4 guppies (all male unless he has a want/place for fry, then 1 male: 3 females)
6 corys
alright thx jpappy!! :D :grinyes: gotta write that down now. any specific type? im thinking peppered would be cool in that tank

most cory species should be fine just make sure you stay away from bronchis (which are not corydoras but look similar)...peppered, bronze, spotted, panda, whichever really he wants. I would stick with one type though. They tend to stick to their own kind and a group will look much nicer than an assorted group.

yeah i thought sticking with a single kind would good thx again :D

I'd make sure the tank is cycled before adding neons as they are pretty fragile.

I've found that tetras and guppies aren't the happiest tankmates, because tetras really like the lower Ph, below 7.0, and guppies are much happier with the higher Ph.

That said, the tetras are pretty hardy and inexpensive fish, so you can always give it a try.
