I posted an ad on craigslist stating I would take people fish/tanks/stands/equipment if they couldn't care for them anymore and have already gotten a 10 gallon (was in really bad shape) out of it. There's a lady emailing me now that wants to give me a 20 gallon triangular tank with fish in it including all equipment and food. I looked up 20 gallon triangle tank on google and only came up with some $500-600 tanks. Either she is very generous or she doesn't understand how much water 20 gallons is. Any thoughts?
 
Oh I will. It's just funny. When I was getting the 10 gallon I asked her how big it was and she said she didn't know but her teenage son could barely carry it by himself. I was thinking he would not be carrying it full, so it must be a rather large tank. It was the 10G so I guess he carried it full lol
 
Yeah! Lol.

But really, anyone heard of a 20 gallon triangular tank?

20L as in LITERS!! So it's a 5g. Could be an upgrade for your betta boy! :thm:
 
She probably just doesn't know how much it actually is and it's a tank like posted above.

I can't count the amount of times people have listed their tank as being at least 100 gallons "but I don't know the actual gallonage" and when I ask for the dimensions it's a 55g, or 75g or something.

Just recently I was looking for a 40 gallon tank and noticed a post on the local message board selling a 40 gallon, but no pictures. I asked for the dimensions and it was a standard 29g.

There are a TON of people that have no clue how big their tank is. A lot of these people have bought their tank brand new, so people must be pretty oblivious, and just about all of them overestimate the size. Every once in awhile you see someone selling a tank as smaller than it is, but usually it's the other way around.
 
The guy who gave me the 180 I just got said it was a 300. And once I asked a customer how big his tank was and his answer was that he didn't know. He wanted a fish and was't sure if it was right for his tank. He referred me to his service guy, a long time friend of mine who told me that the tank was a 450 and that the guy had almost 50 grand in the set up. And he didn't know what he bought!
 
I was told I could have a 500gal for free because somone needed it out of their house. Well after rounding up a bunch of friends to help me load this absolute beast of a tank, I finally laid eyes on my new 55. That sucks enough right there, but to add insult to injury she called me on my way home and asked me if I could pay for the tank. SHE TRIED TO SELL ME SOMTHING SHE HAD JUST GIVEN TO ME!!
 
another way to score aquariums for free is to know or become friends with companies that go in and clean up foreclosed homes after the residents have abandoned the property. OFTEN tanks are left behind filthy as can be but if you dont mind cleaning them up you can have a nice tank for free.
my cousin owns a company that just does forclosure clean outs and he calls me if there are any tanks over 75G left behind since i dont have room to mess with or want smaller tanks.
and here in cali there are empty abandoned homes every where and more happening daily sad but thats the times we are living in now.
so make a friend who owns one of these companies if you want to add to your tank collection.
