What would work best for a 200g rift lake setup, a 40 - 55g sump or a couple of high capacity Eheim canister filters? pros and cons if any please. thanks.

I'd do the sump/power filter combo...If not the best, the wet/dry is no doubtingly one of the top 3 most effecient biological filters....http://www.petpromenade.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=15E50000-951167339....Throw in a pair of hang-on filters, great example is the AC101, and your mechanical filtration is taken care of....

some of the higher quality wet dry filters have all the filtering you will need. if it has 3 stage filtration you should be good to go(30 sump) powerheads are a good way to return the water and circulate it

I totally agree with the sump thing, anything that is over 200 gallons a sump is the way to go! In my opinon it is the best filter ever. You can do ALOT with a sump. Such as refugeum.
