I was just offered a 20g aquarium for free. Which sustained a crack while it was being moved around. It was bumped into a book shelf and one of the corner panes got a small crack. The owner says it doesn't go all the way through the glass and they cannot feel the crack inside of the aquarium or outside. I was wondering if it would still be safe to use this aquarium for fish? I havent seen a picture or looked at it yet but it was described to me as a 1inch line in the glass from bumping the bookshelf. They have some other equipment they said I could have also I'm just wondering if its worth taking the tank. I picked up another 20g the other day that is way to scratched for me to want to use. So I'm looking for a replacement for it.

If it and the equipment is free.. take it...then decide.

Of course, I just don't want to rush home and start setting it up. I was wondering if anyone else has used a tank in similar condition or what other people would do about it.

I wouldn't make a call unless I had at least seen detailed pictures...

I saw pictures of it before she hit it against the bookshelf. It was basically a brand new 20 gallon aqueon. I think I'm going to just go and look everything over and see if its worth it.

you could always disassemble it and use sides for tank covers...

At the cost of a new 20g tank (especially when $1/gal sales happen), I wouldn't use it as an aquarium. It depends on how easily you could tolerate 20g of water on the floor.

YEah I ended up grabbing it and it was not usable. I did however manage to get a free aquaclear 70/fluval 70 HOB and a Cascade 150w heater. So I have some equipment at least. I haven't found a 20g High on sale for the 1.00/g sale. Only 20g longs around me.

No Petco around you? That should have 20H as well as 20L during the $1 gallon sale. Got my 20H earlier this year from Petco.
