I will be stocking my 20g in the next few weeks and was wondering if what i am planning on putting in it sounds ok. Thank you
8 Rummy nose tetra
2 German Blue Rams
3 Corys
4 Boesemani Rainbows
1 Black Mystery snail

I believe the boesemani's might get a bit too big for a school of them in a 20 gallon. Maybe you can replace them with 2-3 dwarf gouramis, and add a few more cory's?

If you do gouramis, make sure 1 male:2 females because males do not get along well. I would suggest paradise gouramis. The same rules apply but they are easier to tell apart; males have longer, almost forked tail fins. Females have shorter, rounded tail fins.

What kind and color substrate would you recommend for my proposed setup, right now it has a real light colored pebble.

Colour is all up to you. I've always liked the lighter colours, but others say darker colours brings out the fish more. As long as you get the softest pebbles you can for the cory's (because of their barbels), you'll be fine!

Good luck with your setup

A school of Boesemanis is too big for that tank. One can fit in a 20g, but they need to be in schools. Most places have them listed as max size 3", but that is incorrect. They can and will grow 5"+ in the right environment.

I like the pea gravel that I have in my 20, you've seen it. It's a light brown and has a great texture. That gravel you have now is kinda sharp and could hurt the corry's barbels, it also makes it harder for them to forage because of its size.
