I am going to be getting a 20G tank from a friend in the next couple of weeks, and am trying to decide what to do with it. I was thinking of doing a tank for a cichlid of some sort, I was thinking maybe a Firemouth or Con.

If I was to get a Firemouth or Con, what would be my options as far as tankmates are concerned?

If I decide against above mentioned fish, do you guys have any suggestions for what I might do with this tank? I'm really open to suggestions right now as I'm really not sure as to what I want to do.

TIA
Elmo

Any suggestions as to what tankmates would work with a con?

elmo and goldfries

elmo with convicts you can keep rainbow cichlids and firmouths, theyd work. and goldfries convicts are so common i have like 45

How about some Tanganyikan shelldwellers? Then you can have more than one easily, in fact you can observe a whole colony in action. There a number of fish you could keep with these guys as well ie. julies, calvus, guppies, rainbows. Some examples of shelldwellers are :
Neolamprologous brevis
Neolamprologous occelatus
Neolamprologous multifasciatus

Are you talking about adult fish or fry? I've read that in most cases they can't get along with anything else, unless you have a good size tank, with lots of hiding places, much larger than 20g. I'm talking about adult fish. I've never heard of adult convicts with anything else but another convict - 2 females or a m/f in a 20g. Please correct me if i'm wrong.
