210L Craiglist tank & DIY stand test!

Between all the red tape Im having to take care of as a result of my current situation (estate protection, probate, my cat discovered killed by coyote exc. exc.) I have been working on this project when I able and having to cut some corners here & there. To save time I decided to test the tank at 60% fill as-is along with the DIY stand that is supported on the bottom only by the dolly wheels and some wedged wood underneath the center support pillars. At 60% and 1100 pounds Im hoping will be enough for a general leak & stand stress test. If it holds Im going to just drain, clean and resea the inside and not worry about the 2 large moon chips on the lower end panels. With the stand unstained and unfinished it should be easy to spot a leak on the blond wood.

I don't think I should push for a 100% test with the stand off the ground not 100% supported. The reason its on the dolly is to keep it mobile to work on becasue once I take it off the dolly's even with tank empty I will not be able to place the dolly wheel back underneath without help. So with the dolly wheel on I will test, clean, reseal, maneuver and then move to it permanent location (a tight spot) and remove the dolly wheels and fill 100%.

why not use a jake bar/handtruck/2x4/etc. to lift it up and put some blocks under it for a full test? you can pay a neighbors kid $5 to stand there for one minute and hold it up while you block it. if you block it high enough for the wheels to slide back under you won't need help setting it back on the wheels later... set your wheels... lift... kick the blocks out... move it... remove the wheels... done... and you can be 100% sure you did the right thing (closer to 90% sure it won't leak).

just a thought. i wouldn't want that bear leaking on my floor.

I used up all my carpenter wedges to build this thing and not enough left overt to place enough blocks correctly and directly underneath all the pillars, and don't feel like going to Lowes. But I know on my last 244 tank project all I did was put 25% and it started leaking right away (bottom crack & deep chip). This tank at 60% and 1 hour sitting is dry as a bone, most importantly the penny size 3/8" moon chip at the bottom is not leaking at all.

Im the youngest person retired in my retired community (53), everyone else is about 70+, no adults under the age of 42 allowed, only occasional visitors. Everyone who visits tell me its so quiet except for the occasional wheelchair or Lincoln Continental. Im sort of the neighborhood hooligan with my noisy ATVs and 1200 Street bike. If I need help I have to call a friend 8 miles away and it better be more then just to move a caster or block. I think the 60% should do it, in any-case the reseal should add extra insurance.

Time to drain, clean and reseal, more pics to come.

OK I feel what your saying so I compromised and filled the tank to 75% of full 18 of 24 inches or about 1600 pounds + or -. Ill give it another 30 minutes and then drain.

I was real surprised when the seller called me back a week later to accept my offer of $120, I think most people looking for a starter tank were probubly intimidated especially since it was tank only. Which reminds me I need to get some 7/32 or .22 thick glass cut into four panels 41" X 11"" for sliding glass covers at Home Depot or Lowe. Hope they don't ask me what they are for.

Coyote problems? You just need the right cat. Look into an F1 or F2 Savannah, or even a Serval.

Last Monday morning after the male Bombay diden't show up at sunrise only the female and she was an hour late, tired and bruised, so I put out flayers at the community mailbox. A neighbor called and reported seeing the whole thing Hershey loosing the fight and the coyote carrying him off into the desert about 2 miles down the road. I believe both cats ventured too far this time from the community and with no structures or trees for safety only open desert the female was ambushed and the male tried to protect the female but the desert coyotes here are very tenacious. This is the 2nd time Hershey had an encounter with a Coyote, the first time he fought so hard he broke all his nails off his paws, that was 2 years ago. Anyway I learned my lesson for good this time and Im going to build them a large outside enclosure so they can go outside but be safe. The coyotes here are very strong and have pulled dogs right off the leash in front of owners at the park. Once I crashed on my dirt bike and was laying down recovering alone and 3 coyotes came out of holes in the dry riverbed toward me and my yelling at them diden't work until I fired a shot at the ground with my .22 Mag and they hauled.

It's good that you've realized that letting cats out in coyote country is not a smart idea, particularly before some of the closet PETA members here gave you the business. I would say that imo no dog worth the title could be pulled off a leash by a coyote. Real dogs defend things from coyotes. Glad your one cat is ok.
