29G lights and filter?

I'm having trouble finding lights that will fit a 29G tank. I'm thinking of switching my freshwater to a marine tank. But I'm not sure what size lights to get. Nor what wattage for that matter.

As for the filter. I'm guessing I need a wet/dry filter plus a skimmer? Or will a canaster and skimmer work? I don't know what size or what kind of filter to get for a marine tank either.

Any suggestions would be wonderful.

you dont need any mechanical filtration. Just plenty of good quality live rock, and a deep sand bed or some macroalgae.

Lighting depends entirely on what you want to keep. If you want creatures that rely on light for energy your lighting needs are going to be drastically different than if you only want to keep fish.

if you are looking to keep any sort of corals.. then you do not wnat to use Mechanical filtration as it will be too bothersome to have to clean, It would have to be cleaned just about every weekend.. taken apart and have all the media in it rinsed in old tank water, or eles you will have a build up of Nitrates witch will cause serious issues with corals.

Now if you are just keep fish only, well then you can get away with the mechanical filtration as they are able to subside with the higer nitrate levels.

Ideally what you want is to have about 1.5 pounds of good seeded live rock per gallon of water, This will alow the tank to maintain its self interms of the filtration.

as for the lighting on a 29 gallon, i had one a tall tank it was 30 inches high, started off with just 2x 15 watt florecents and 1x 55watt powercompacts witch where great with just the fish and some easier corals such as Exinas, mushrooms and a leather toadstool.. but then i wanted to move in to more requiring animals.. such as SPS so i have now moved up to a 72 gallon tank running VHO Actincs and Metal Haldies.

Umm....

I would like to have some coral in the tank. The reef stuff sounds a little complicated to start out on. But the live rock, maybe some coral and of course fish. What is this mechanical filter you guys are talking about? An over the hood regular filter? Or is that a canister?
 
For your lighting, I suggest the Custom Sealife Powerquad. Same concept as a 96watt compact fluorescent bulb, except instead of having 2 tubes, it has 4... 18" long x 7" wide, so it will give excellent coverage. I'm in the planning stage of recplacing my halides with a couple of these as I'm tired of the heat and fan noise that goes with em... Its the highstest wattage yer gonna get in a single bulb without going halide.
 
There are alot of different types of corals, and their lighting needs very greatly.

As i said earlier, you dont need any filters. Just Live rock and a deep sand bed.
