300 Gallon Pond Questions

I plan on getting a 300 gallon pond to put in the basement of the house I'm getting some time this summer. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what kind of pond (preformed, lined,etc.) would be best and whether it would be suitable for a silver arowana. I have a 7" arowana in my 72 gal tank but would like to make him happy as he grows by putting him in the 300 gallon. I also have two other fish that when they max out in size they will need to be in the 300 gallon(fire eel and tire track eel). Any suggestions and help would be very appreciated:)
 
I just found a free hot tub on craigslist that doesnt work and has no wood framing around it. Has anyone ever tried using a hot tub as a fish pond. Could I just put a liner down on it to stop the water from running throught the holes for the jets and fill it up or is this not a good idea. About how many gallons would a 7'X7'x31" hot tub hold?
 
i'm not too knowledgable about ponds... but i would look through some of the older posts on this forum by searching "ponds". there are some really good threads that users have posted detailing everything they used that would be very helpful for someone starting a pond.

I know I've seen a thread (don't know if it's on here or not) where somebody did exactly that - turned a hot tub into a pond. They buried it completely in the ground. I don't remember what they used for the jets / holes. At a minimum you could use it as your frame and use a standard rubber liner.

Google is your friend..., but I can't find it for the life of me.

If you didn't want to use the liner on top, I guess you could use spray-foam (the pond-waterfall kind) into all the jet openings, then epoxy a small square of liner over each opening (just for insurance).
 
thanks for the suggestions:) My gf is in the process of buying a house right now and I wont get to pick up the hot tub to convert it into a pond until the house is ready so I can put it in the basement (indoor pond!)...it could be a few months. just plannin ahead.
