30g BW need Skimmer?

I have kept 3 fig8's and 2 knight gobys for a couple years now. They started out in a 20G for about 1 year (the fig8's were barely larger than 1" when I got them). When I out them in my 40g 4' long tank my wife bought a scat and a mono without realizing how big they get and that they school. Its been a bit over a year in the 40G with all of them, and they have all done just fine except for 1 knight goby passing away just last week.

From my observation with 3 fig8's it is very likely there will be either 1 head of the pack or 1 that is kinda shunned from the other two. Although mine have all gotten along prety well there is one with a slightly odd pattern and the other one/two often chase it away or engage in minor skirmish. But its always very minor, and its a 4' long tank with 3 large driftwoods and some plants so there is plenty of hiding spaces.

Good luck!

I keep 2 in a 29g. They are very happy in there. They do seem to live longer (18+ years) as singletons though.

As far as skimmers in marine--I wouldn't live w/o one! Once you see the nasty, smelly scum it removes, you'll never go back! You'll wonder how your creatures were living in that! Before I had a skimmer, I had to do 50% weekly water changes, like in all my FW/BW tanks. That was 10 cups of salt for my 55g.
