How many cichlids will be good in 35 gallon tank? I want to have a community tank of cichlids. What kind of cichlids will be good in community tank?

for a 35 you may need something peaceful like rams...from what I know (and I'm still learning), aggressives from Lake M, Lake T, and South America need at least 50 gal. to be comfy

Hi,

I agree, I believe a 35 gallon tank would be a bit small for say Peacocks from Lake Malawi, I would suggest at least a 55 gallon for them and larger if possible. Rams would be a good choice for a 35 gallon tank. I'm sure some of the experts here can make some good suggestions. Good luck.

Cichlid "community" tanks are difficult. The smaller SA dwarfs require just as big a territory as cichlids three times their size. I would hesitate to put more than one species in a 35g unless they were the two mildest tempered ones (rams and keyholes).

The 35g is too small for mbuna, but is perfect for a Lake Tanganyikan community. Pick one species of shell dweller, one species of rock dweller, throw in a pair of calvus to cruise the open waters and you've got a nice litlle biotope.

Hi,

Lookat the apisto's..or other dwarf cichlids..many of the cichlids get large and will need a larger tank.

I a more familiar with the american cichlids..but apisto's and Mikrogeophagus(rams) come to mind.

If you are unfamiliar with keeping cichlids the apisto's tend to be more hardy.

there is a lot of concern about the quality of the blue rams from asia..but you could go with the Bolivian rams..the hardier of the two.

apisto's tend to cost more..I found the bolivian rams at a petco here for $2.99 ea..

it sounds like they are discintinuing these from their stock..I'll prob pick some up myself for the quarantine, then move them to another 20
