Hi! I have decided against convicts because of the spawning. I would like to have a cichlid tank with not as agressive cichlids. Was thinking of yellow labs,...................................Any other suggestions?

Rams are quite nice. You could do a school or something. Maybe a Blue Acara (my avatar, I'm proud of it

If I go with yellow labs and other cichlids, do I need a male and female yellow lab? What about the others? I do like the blue peacock. Do they both have the same water requirements?
I nwould ket a bunch of kenyis, or some jewels. but if you go with americans you should onlyu have one fish and id say a dempsey

I would not keep Lake Malawi cichlids in a 37 gallon long term, but it can be used as a grow-out tank.
I would stick with dwarf SA/CA cichlids, or African riverine cichlids... or possibly some smaller Lake Tangynika cichlids.

Find some Ps. Saulosi. They're dimorphic, so you'll get 2 great colors (yellow and blue striped) in one species. A group of 6 (2M, 4F) would do fine in a 37. Pile the rocks high in that tall tank.

I've kept saulosi in a 35 gallon before, and it did not work long term. They are not the 'peaceful' species everyone cooks them up to be. My male beat up and killed several of his females until I had to get rid of them.
I now have a group in my 90 gallon. My male is over 5".... certianly too large to keep in anything under a 55 gallon.
