There is a company that makes really nice one's prebuilt and can be cut to fit your tank, I wish I can find the link though.

Jewel aquariums do a 3d background...

that is very effective. Just silicon it to the back of the tank. It can be an inch or two thick though, but is a huge improvement on have a picture taped to the back of the tank. You can also gouge holes in it an plant small plants.
