44 Gallon Pentagon freshwater livestock suggestions wanted

Lots of lights will allow you to grow plants, the big problem is that due to the shape of the tank, if you count the end opposite the pointy end as the front, then lighting attached to the tank is going to be at a 45 degree angle. So aesthetics are not going to be ideal that way... personally I would go with a pendant, or something on a gooseneck on the tank, for example a kessil light, and have that sort of centralized.

The platic hood will let you have the lights across, but theere's a layer of plexiglass in there, and it's really not ideal, nor is the glass top where it opens from a short side across to the longest side (Difficult to explain, I know)

My personal preference, unless there's a good reason to go with the pentagon aquarium, would be to get a 2 foot cube (24"x24"x24"_ which won't use up much more floorspace, except for that cut off corner, and give you many more options for lighting and aquascaping,

Well, get ready for some bad news, and some excellent news...

Bad news is the 44g pentagon is too large for the nook in our dining room we had intended on. I found a 30 gallon online, but the moral went down big time. Was just about to grab a 10 gallon for my basement just because I was so excited to keep fish again in the first place, when my wife came to me with some excellent excellent news:

She suggested we mount our TV in the living room up on the wall so I could get a standard shaped tank to put in its current place (on a tv stand on the floor). I did a quick appraisal of the area - no direct sunlight, moderate traffic (just the two of us mostly). Long story short guys...
I'M GOING 55GALLONS AND I'M GOING DISCUS!!!!

Aware of the extra maintenance that discus require, but have wished to keep discus for as long as I've been in the hobby. Things went from cool, to crap, to amazing. I'm so pumped. I'll want to bounce questions and ideas off of you two and the rest of the public, should I start a new thread now that I've got a new project altogether?

thanks guys,
I'm so pumped

I've never been a fan of tiger barbs, since they get big (I keep fish that stay around 1 inch), but looks good for numbers, and the height will allow the barbs to hang out at the top and the cories at the bottom. The benefit to chilis is that they're much smaller, so you can have more of them and they will still school nicely in a taller tank.

Congrats on the upgrade. :) I'm not a fan of discus (same issue, BIG!), but they're lovely. Make sure the TV stand is solid--most aquariums weigh more than newer TVs.
