I have a 5 gallon tank with a betta in it. It has been set up for about a month now. I have a 25W heater, a submersible filter with a cartridge, temp is running about 80 and Philllipe (the fish) is eating me out of house and home.

My question is: how can I get the wastes out of the gravel? My filter does not suck the water up from the bottom, I guess, so how do I take out the feces and uneaten food, please?

Thank you for your help.

"The Littlest Gravel Vac"

I have a 1-gallon tank with filter and light for my goldfish Cleo (Fantail). Once a week I clean her gravel with a tiny siphon/gravel vac - I didn't know they were made so small. After cleaning a large tank it's almost comical in a sense, but it works great. I think I got mine a Petco.

Another I do with Cleo's tank and all my betta tanks is to use a turkey baster to get water rushing through the gravel/marbles, etc. thus bring trapped debris out into the open where the filter can do it's thing.

Cleo's gravel vac/siphon:
1" OD x 6" with 3/8" OD tubing
