Hello:

I am considering the purchase of a 54 gallon corner bowfront tank. Can anyone suggest the best type of filtration options. Canister underneath? Hang on filters on the back? I have two emperor 400s on my 75g and really like them, but want to use the least floor space possible.

Thanks!

i'd recommend a canister. i hear Eheim's are the cream of the crop, but i've never owned one.

but if you are going to go with HOB's, i'd say another Emperor 400 and an AC 200. maybe an AC 500 and 200 (thats what i have on my 55)

ahhh, i your case i'd definatly go with an E400 and an AC 200... you could totally cheat and not have to cycle your new tank (much) :thm:

you could go with the E280 or a penguin for the second filter, but i'd say AquaClear. the flow control and ease of medium make it a great redundency filter.

i just got what you meant by floor space... in a corner, no hang on back....

if you want to do it up right, i saw a corner setup once that had holes drilled in the bottom and a canister in a cabinet below. it was an ingenious combination of UGF and canister filtration. water was delivered up through a powerhead apparatus in one corner.

really neat setup.

the Emperor idea definetly has its benefits, though canister will let you get back in the corner fully.

Thanks to all of you.

I'm thinking more along the lines of a canister. Was looking at the Eheim 2217 and Professional IIs at my LFS today and think that would be a good way to go. A definite learning curve, but a good choice.

Thanks again!
